New Year, New Career? Here are our top tips!

For many of us, the start of a new year brings fresh beginnings in many ways. This may be a new home, new personal goals, or perhaps a new career. If you’re seeking the latter in 2023, here are some top tips to help you land your new dream job.

 

Don’t wait around:

The first two months of the year are a fantastic time to begin to apply for jobs. This is due to an abundance of reasons, including:

More people hoping to move jobs, thus more vacancies become available
New hiring budgets, meaning more team expansions

On top of this, January is often the time of the year that more decision-makers are in the office, meaning you’re likely to receive a speedy response from your CV and often a faster interviewing process.

 

Perfect your CV:

It is important to ensure that your CV is updated and up to perfection before beginning the application process. Here are some of our key top tips to bear in mind when doing this:

Keep it short and straight to the point – your CV should be no longer than 2 pages
Include a personal statement which tells the Hiring Manager a little bit about you

Be honest about your experience and where the gaps in your knowledge are

Then, tailor your CV to the role that you are applying for:

This step is key for helping your CV to stand out from the crowd.

When doing this, you should carefully study the job advertisement that you are applying for and select relevant keywords that can be implemented into your CV. For example, when searching for a marketing role, you may use buzzwords such as SEO, CPC, CTR and conversion rates. This will show the Hiring Manager that you have a deep understanding of the role requirements.

 

The Application Process:

Once your CV is tailored, up to date and sent out to potential employers, it’s time to brush up on your interview answers. We have lots of tips for interviews on the blog section of our website. Often at this time of year, Hiring Managers want their recruits to start as quickly as possible, so ensuring that you have brushed up on your interview techniques will mean that you are prepared should a last-minute interview arise.

 

Remain Proactive

Remember, you won’t always hear back from every job application and that is completely normal. Don’t let this put you off your search! Employers will continue to hire throughout the year, especially within the first quarter.

Ensure that you remain proactive with your search. You can do this by registering with recruitment agencies, setting up job alerts on sites such as Indeed and LinkedIn and ensuring that your LinkedIn profile is up to date (where applicable), as you never know who may come across your profile!

You may even want to use this time to participate in a course or two to brush up on your knowledge and work on any knowledge gaps that you may have.
