Hours – 50 hours per week with 1 hour lunch break working predominantly Monday to Friday. The transport office operates from 06:00 to 20:00hrs and you will be required to work between those times. Some flexibility will be required due to the nature of the role.

As a customer-centric, well-organised and integral member of the busy transport and compliance teams, the Transport Planner is a keystone to the overall success of their daily transport operation. Liaising efficiently and effectively with valued drivers, external and internal customers, departments and suppliers and through the creative use of our in-house software and systems to produce the most cost-effective and efficient route plans possible, this challenging role is committed to providing a best-in-class transport service, whilst capitalising on every opportunity to improve operational efficiencies and profitability within the confines of all company policies and procedures, statutory laws, rules and regulations.
Maintain all relevant aspects of a safe, legal and compliant transport operation.
To ensure the customer receives a first class and professional service in all communication.
To demonstrate a keen eye whilst working under pressure.
De-brief drivers ensuring we keep a tight control on all aspects of the paperwork.
To plan routes and deliveries in a cost effective way
Proactive communication with delivery partners and customers
Inputting work into the pallet network system
Monitoring deliveries through the network
Arranging third party collections
Maintain a safe working environment by ensuring you comply with statutory law, company policy & health & safety guidelines
Assist in the adherence to Drivers Hours Regulations in accordance with the working time directive.
Ensuring quotes, jobs and costings are entered correctly and in a timely manner onto the traffic management system.
Ensuring drivers have correct paperwork for deliveries & are aware of any customer requirements
Ensure that all relevant statutory laws, EU Drivers Hours Rules & Regulations, Road Transport (Working Time) Regulations, Operators Licence and OCRS obligations, FORS requirements are adhered too and all Company policies and procedures communicated and applied at all times.
Ensure that drivers are issued with the correct documentation and fully informed on both the customers’ requirements and our expectations.
Full and thorough driver briefing and de-briefing, both remotely and at base – Carry out daily welfare checks on all remote drivers; check in/out all company issued devices and equipment; communicate shift start times and manifest details; check documentation accuracy and address any errors
Communicate all issues and concerns with both internal and external customers and the Transport Planning teams in a timely manner and maintain an open and transparent dialogue with all parties.
Monitor driver performance, delays and demurrage and identify opportunities to improve efficiencies and increase profitability.
Analyse all relevant areas of responsibility, set KPI’s and manage improvement objectives.
Maintain a cohesive and efficient working relationship with all suppliers and staff and liaise effectively with the Fleet Compliance team to ensure that all legal compliance requirements are correctly communicated and organised efficiently.
Involvement in projects as required for continual improvement, leading to improved efficiency and increased profitability.
Creating and promoting best practices for drivers and leading from the front to provide a positive and proactive culture in all areas of responsibility.
· Experience of Pallet Network Operations
· General haulage and groupage experience
Intermediate skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
Demonstrates knowledge of:
Transport & logistics operations.
Road Transport (Working Time) Regulations 2005
Local geographical knowledge
Working within a busy pallet network operation.
