As an Assistant Buyer, you will play a crucial role in supporting the senior buyer by assisting with various tasks related to purchasing goods and services. You will work closely with the Buyer to ensure that the company’s procurement needs are met efficiently and effectively. This position requires strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Duties (in conjunction with the Buyer):
Buying from approved suppliers at agreed rates.
Creating purchase orders and updating the bill of material lists
Nesting plate and steel lengths to reduce waste
Keeping the stock sheet up to date
Checking and saving test certificates/delivery notes within the relevant file within the contracts folder
Ensuring that materials and services are bought on time and to the required specification
Progressing orders for on-time deliveries
Supporting other team members in times of high demand, holiday or illness
The ideal candidate will:
Have an understanding of the construction industry and the manufacturing processes
Experience of a similar role gained within a busy commercial steel working environment.
Be experienced in using Excel and Word
– Numerate and accurate with good analytical and reporting skills.
– Able to work to tight deadlines, and calm under pressure.
– Excellent communication skills, in person, via telephone and email.
– Good knowledge of purchasing best practice.
– Performance orientated.
– Attention to detail.
– Effective time and workload management skills, adhering to tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities under pressure.
